Happy New Year everyone! New year, new you? I'm the same old me, but with a renewed commitment to taking care of myself -- SELF LOVE is truly where it's at in 2018!!  For me, that means making a point for daily exercise and treating my body kindly through the foods I eat, AS WELL AS proper supplementation! 

As a food & lifestyle blogger, I'll be completely honest, I get a LOT of products for free. A brand will send me a product and hope that I love it, so that I will then (hopefully) share my opinions with all of you on my social channels. That said, you can't PAY me (in product or in money) to share an opinion on a product that I don't love. Meaning, all opinions and thoughts are always honest and 100% my own. Which means you can trust what you see, though of course your opinion and experience might differ :) 

So now that we got that out of the way, I wanted to tell you about one of my favorite holidays--aka the Whole Foods 25% Supplement Sale, it's from January 5-7, 2018, at all Whole Foods locations. Yep, it's such a great sale, it might as well be a National Holiday. Here's why -- many products have already been marked down prior to the additional 25% off discount. AND, what many of you might not know, is that if you have the Whole Foods Body Benefits Membership (I don't, but it's only $30/year and you get 20% of supplements all year long), you can combine both discounts and save even MORE. So yeah...it's a good sale. 

As you can see in the photo, I did some pretty good damage! I picked up my every day staples, along with some new things that I haven't tried yet. Below is a quick n dirty summary of the things I already use and love. The other things I'll tell you more about once I've used them and can share an honest review. So here goes:

Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides - There truly isn't a day that goes by that I don't have collagen in my diet in some shape or form. I always have this trusty blue container in my kitchen at all times, and I use it in my smoothies, coffee, and I even sprinkle it on my food. Don't worry, you can't taste it and it doesn't smell. I also SWEAR by Vital Proteins Beauty Boost, a supplement in pill form formulated to strengthen and grow hair, skin, and nails. I have been taking this product religiously for over 6 months, and it has been the KEY to helping my hair stop falling out post-partum. So to all my mama friends, you heard it here first. If you get any two Vital Proteins products, you need the basic Collagen Peptides and Beauty Boost. VP collagen peptides are sourced from grass-fed, pasture-raised bovine hides to ensure a high quality source of this nutrient, and 1 serving contains 20g of collagen protein!

MCT Oil - MCT (or medium chain triglycerides) are a daily staple in my household. I put 1tsp daily in my morning coffee, along with one scoop of collagen peptides (which I told you about above). The body processes MCT's differently from long-chain fats in your diet, and are readily used by your body for energy rather than being stored as fat. MCTs are also helpful for ridding the gut of harmful microorganisms like pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. Like coconut oil, MCTs also have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Additionally, MCT oil really helps get rid of my brain fog and helps with mental sharpness (which trust me, I need all the sharpness I can get these days!).

Garden Of Life Prenatal Multi-Vitamin - I took this prenatal vitamin with both of my pregnancies. It's certified organic and non-gmo, and it's made entirely from real, whole food. And it's the only multi that doesn't make me nauseated (perhaps because there is a stomach-soothing blend in it), even when I take it on an empty stomach. Guess what? I'm not pregnant anymore and I'm still taking it. Why? Because it contains 21 essential vitamins and minerals with 800mcg of natural folate, 18mg of iron (that doesn't make you constipated!), plus soothing peppermint and ginger. I figure, why CAN'T I keep taking it?

Natural Vitality Calm - Natural Calm is a magnesium supplement that comes in a powdered form (235mg) and you mix it into a cold or warm cup of water. I'm not sure why they call it "Calm," but if I had to guess, it's because it makes you regular (aka poop) and afterwards you feel CALM. Ya think? I don't know. What I can tell you is that 1) I actually like the taste (it comes in a few flavors); and 2) it makes me regular. Which makes me happy. I buy the large container, but ALWAYS travel with the travel-sized packages. 

Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega + CoQ10 - As I dive deeper and deeper into my functional nutrition course, the more I truly believe that supplementing an already healthy diet with a high quality omega-3 oil is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. I have been taking 2 of these soft gels every day for months. What I like about them is that there is no weird fishy taste and they aren't THAT big (aka "horse pills"). They aren't the smallest I've seen, but don't worry, if I can swallow them, trust me, so can you. They contain high quality double strength EPA +DHA, and as an added bonus, it contains CoQ10, which is an anti-oxidant important for heart health and preventing free radical damage. Sign me up.

One of the *NEW* things that I splurged on at the Whole Foods supplement sale is Resveratrol, a polyphenol found in red wine. I've been doing a lot of reading about it's health benefits, and there is a good body of literature out there that supports its effectiveness for slowing down the aging process, improving endurance (which is great for athletes and fitness freaks like myself!), heart health, and much more. I'll keep you posted....
